Texas Moves to Ban Sodas and Candy from SNAP Purchases
Texas lawmakers have approved legislation to prohibit the use of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to buy sodas, and candy.
Governor Greg Abbott has not yet signed the bill into law, but he has submitted a formal waiver request to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which would allow Texas to implement the restrictions. If the USDA approves the waiver and Abbott signs the bill, the changes could go into effect as early as September 2025.
