Gladys Porter Zoo needs your help:
Have you seen Rosie?
This is Rosie, the roseate spoonbill. She is 13 years old and lives at the Gladys Porter Zoo in the Free-Flight Aviary. While being transported for her annual physical exam and vaccinations yesterday, Rosie decided to go on an adventure and managed to break out of her crate and fly off the Zoo grounds.
Roseate spoonbills are native to this area, and it is not uncommon to see wild ones in wetland habitats like resacas and marshes. However, Rosie was hand-raised and is not suited for the life of a wild bird.
She was last spotted near downtown Brownsville in the 4th St. and D St. areas. She can be identified by the band on her leg, which a wild roseate spoonbill is unlikely to have. If you think you’ve spotted her, please do not approach her, as she could get startled and fly off. Instead, please message the Zoo (at any time) via our Facebook page with a photo (if possible) or call us during our regular hours (9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) at (956) 546-7187.
Thank you!
