The RGV’s first Fatburger location received approval for its architectural plans.
It will be located on the presently empty lot next to the Dunkin’ on Trenton and Mccoll Road. This will be a stand alone restaurant with two drive through lanes.

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) announced today that it has acquired H-E-B Park, designating the venue as the primary home for the upcoming Vaqueros football program.

According to project data the new location should be complete by August 2024. Construction at this location began prior to the one in McAllen so it should be the first one to open in the RGV.

We normally only post about the RGV, but this new venue in San Antonio has roots from the RGV. The owners started off their business in the city of San Benito in 2019 and expanded to McAllen in 2022 as 80s Brewery.
Billie Jean will be opening in February in the Stone Oak area in San Antonio.

Coming Soon RGV is reporting that Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. will be setting up a new location in South Padre Island.

Looks like South Padre may be getting another causeway.

The RGV will be getting a few Fatburger restaurants. The parent company of Fatburger is bringing six franchised Fatburger locations to Hidalgo County, Texas, over the next five years.

The City of Edinburg Economic Development Corporation is planning on creating a food truck park next to City Hall. It will be in close proximity to UTRGV.

According to the Mr. Gatti’s Pizza website, 3 new locations are coming to the RGV: La Joya, Harlingen and Brownsville.

Fort Brown Border Patrol Agents located an elderly man in Boca Chica, Texas, who had been reported missing. Upon encounter, agents noticed the man was disoriented, possibly suffering from a medical condition, and his vehicle was stuck on the beach.

Agents notified the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office who confirmed there was an active silver alert for the man. Great job by all involved, bringing a positive outcome to this missing person report, making one RGV family whole again.

From the 956 to the NBA 🏀
Oscar Garza joined the Sacramento Kings as an assistant Athletic Trainer this year. Prior to joining the Kings, Garza was the Head Athletic Trainer of the South Bay Lakers and worked closely with the LA Lakers medical staff throughout the 2022- ‘23 season.

Garza’s professional basketball journey began in 2021 as the Head Athletic Trainer/Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Mexico City Capitanes inaugural season in the NBA G-League. Although the Capitanes only played the 2021 Winter Showcase, that allowed the Rio Grande Valley native to join the RGV Vipers staff assistant Athletic Trainer. The Vipers ended the 2021- ‘22 regular season with the best record in the western conference, and the 4th championship in the organization’s history.

Prior to professional basketball, Garza was an Assistant Athletic Trainer/Strength and Conditioning Coach at Texas A&M International University (Division II) where his primary responsibilities were men’s basketball, women’s soccer, and women’s volleyball.
He also worked from 2016- ‘20 as an assistant Athletic Trainer in the secondary setting at Jack C. Hays HS and Los Fresnos HS respectively, both schools in the highest classification in the state Texas.

Oscar credits his career to his passion for sports, healthcare, and relationships. Outside of work he enjoys exercising, traveling, and spending time with family in Rio Grande City. Oscar is a Certified Athletic Trainer (NATA), Strength and Conditioning Coach (NSCA), and BLS Provider (American Heart Association).
