Weslaco-the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) investigates an auto-pedestrian fatality hit and run crash that occurred on Sunday, August 1, at approximately 9:35 p.m. on N. Alamo Road, south of 17 ½ Road – Edinburg. Two females (one being eight months pregnant) were standing by their vehicle pouring gas into the gas tank when a pick-up truck traveling southbound struck both females and fled the scene. Both females were transported to local hospitals. Lorena Perez, 18, a resident of Edinburg (pedestrian), was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Medical professionals administered an emergency c-section to save the unborn child but to no success. Carlos Rodriguez Santiago, 44, a resident of Edinburg- driver of the Chevrolet, turned himself in today. Rodriguez Santiago was arrested and charged with fail to stop and render aid-death, fail to render aid with serious bodily injuries and for tampering with physical evidence.
