The State of Texas has officially launched a crackdown on local city budgets, and two of the Rio Grande Valley’s largest cities are directly in the crosshairs. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced today that his office is opening an investigation into nearly 1,000 cities across the state to determine if they have been illegally raising property taxes without following proper financial transparency laws.
